Shannaghmore

On our last day in Shannaghmore we all got up nice and early, tidied our rooms and packed all our things before completing our final activities of the high ropes course and scrambling.  After lunch we met in the common room to discuss our favourite activites and thanked our instructors for an amazing weekend.  The children were praised for their incredible teamwork skills and how fantastic they were at encouraging and supporting eachother during all their tasks.  Everyone had a great time making memories that will last a lifetime.

Another beautiful morning in Newcastle. The children awoke at 7.30am with some groups being up earlier than others! A breakfast of cereal, fruit juice and toast allowed the group to have some freetime around the grounds meeting up at 9.30am in the conference room. Today the children were placed in three groups to complete the activities of scrambling, archery and the high/low ropes courses. The groups rotated around all the events leaving one final activity for the last day.

After lunch the weather remained positive with all of the groups engaged outside and energy levels were beginning to wain.  Dinner comprised of chips, beans and chicken nuggets and was gratefully accepted by some very hungry children especially when donuts were presented for dessert. There were many pupils up for seconds tonight!

After dinner the children watched a movie and had a supper of toast and hot chocolate.

Ready for bed at 9.30pm and lights were out at 9.45pm. Have to say I can still hear the odd whisper or two! Good night all.

On Monday 21st February 30 intrepid P6 pupils headed off to Shannaghmore Outdoor Pursuits Centre for three days of activity. The group left Tandragee at approximately 9.20am and arrived at a cool but sunny Newcastle just before 10:30am. A quick health and safety session taking account of fire alarm procedures and centre rules was followed by a gathering up of equipment and clothing. A quick lunch of sandwiches, soup, crisps and fruit was polished off quickly before the groups got ready for their first activity. As the weather was still quite cold from storms Dennis and Eunice, we were unfortunately unable to take part in bouldering and canoeing. Therefore, today we had two groups taking part in a wet and mucky adventure trail whilst the third group took park in archery and a low ropes course. After a quick shower and change the groups returned to the centre for a tea of chips, beans and sausages followed by a dessert of ice cream. The final action this evening was a beautiful moonlit walk by torchlight along Murlough beach. A quick stop for supplies at the local garage, toast and juice for supper and ready for bed at 9.45pm. Lights were out by 10.00pm for 30 very tired pupils.  The kids were great and had a really enjoyable day.
