General School Information
The current enrolment in Tandragee Primary is 314 pupils ranging in age from 4 – 11 years. There are 12 class teachers and 2 part-time teachers who provide additional learning support.
It is the policy of the School that all pupils will receive their full entitlement to the Revised Northern Ireland Curriculum and that the school will go beyond that entitlement in areas where possible.
The school offers a curriculum that is broadly based and which promotes the moral, cultural, intellectual, spiritual and physical development of the pupils. It is designed to help children understand the world in which they live and to appreciate human achievements and aspirations. It endeavours to help pupils develop lively and enquiring minds and to encourage a positive attitude to learning and to prepare pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. Children are expected to diligently apply themselves to the learning tasks.
To support the curriculum and to enhance opportunities for learning, the school has in place a number of programmes which include Reading Recovery, Writing and Reading Partnerships,Maths Catch-up, Time to Count and Numeracy Recovery. A range of extra-curricular activities is offered to all age groups and these are delivered by teachers and external agencies. The school is well-resourced to meet the demands of change in the curriculum and recent enhancements to the accommodation for staff and pupils have enriched the school environment.
The school actively seeks opportunities to organise and participate in community and cross-community activities. There is a history of involvement in local and wider community activity which includes providing entertainment for senior citizens’ groups, organising events in co-operation with local churches and participation in a variety of activities with other schools. The school is well-supported by an active PTA.
The school operates in a Christian ethos, helping children to develop sound moral values and promote a spirit of tolerance towards others.
